The Warning Signs Before a Drain Lets Go

Most drains warn you before they give out. Spot one of these early and you spare yourself a full backup, so watch for the signs and note which of our services sorts each one.

  • Sinks and showers draining slowly are usually the first hint of a build-up, and a drain cleaning run clears it.
  • A gurgling sound when the toilet or floor drain empties means air is trapped behind a choke point.
  • A rotten or sewage smell tends to mean a cracked or blocked sewer, which is blocked sewer work.
  • Puddles sitting at the gully after rain suggest a stormwater line surcharging or partly choked.
  • A toilet level that rises or drops as you flush shows the waste has nowhere left to go.
  • A wet patch on the lawn with no rain can mean a pipe leaking below ground, which a CCTV drain inspection will pinpoint.

Seeing two of these at once? Ring us before it tips into an overflow.

How we work

How We Clear a Drain Properly

Four steps, no shortcuts, and you know the price before step two.

  1. 01

    1. Call Answered, Price Agreed

A real plumber takes your call and works out what the job needs. You hear the number and approve it before we do a thing.

  2. 02

    2. Eyes on the Blockage

We feed a CCTV camera in so the blockage and its cause show up on screen. No guessing, no digging blind.

  3. 03

    3. Cleared the Right Way

Then we match the gear to the job, a high-pressure jetter to shift grease and silt or an electric eel for stubborn roots.

  4. 04

    4. Proven Clear, Fixed for Good

A final camera run lets you watch the pipe flowing, and we walk through any lasting fix, whether that is a targeted repair or no-dig relining.

Local knowledge

What Causes the Blockages We Clear in St Ives

St Ives changed from rural land into a dormitory suburb after the 1959 rezoning, so most homes here are post-war and mid-century brick houses on large lots. The drains underneath them tell that story.

Those decades of building left a lot of original earthenware clay drainage in the ground. Clay runs in jointed sections, and over sixty-odd years those joints crack, shift and open just enough for trouble to start.

The big leafy blocks are the other half of the problem. Mature gums and garden trees send roots hunting for water, and they find it at every cracked clay joint, which is the single most common blockage we clear here.

Then there is the terrain. St Ives sits on a shale-capped ridge that slopes toward the Garigal bushland, and in a heavy summer storm the catchment run-off surcharges older stormwater lines faster than they can cope.

You see all three around the older streets off Rosedale Road and up toward Mona Vale Road: roots in clay, storm surcharge on the slope, and the odd collapse where a joint finally lets go. A CCTV drain inspection tells us which one you have before we lift a tool.

Straight pricing

What It Costs to Clear a Blocked Drain in St Ives

No call-out fee, and no dollar figure guessed over the phone. We quote a fixed price on-site, after we have seen the actual blockage, and you approve it before any work starts.

A handful of things decide where a drain quote lands:

  • Access to the pipe, from an open gully out the back to a run sealed under a paved courtyard.
  • Where the blockage sits, both how deep it runs and how far along the drain it has formed.
  • Roots or a collapse, which mean cutting or a pipe repair rather than a straight clear.
  • Relining, which we only put forward when a no-dig repair genuinely works out cheaper than a dig.

Two easy ways to save: grab $50 off when you book online, and ask about the 10% seniors discount. Both come straight off the quoted price, not off a mystery number.

In the community, for the community

The Community Side of the Job

We run this as a family, and St Ives is the kind of place where you nod to the same faces at the Shopping Village week after week. In the community, for the community, is not just a line for us.

Through the year we back Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney, Beyond Blue, Wayside Chapel and Pink Ribbon Day, and we turn up to local community events when they need a hand.

It is a small part of the job, but it is the part that reminds us the homes we work in belong to people we live alongside.

Common questions

FAQs from St Ives Homeowners

A few questions we get asked most often. Call (02) 9134 9059 if yours is not here.

Are your plumbers licensed and insured?

Yes. Every job is done by a licensed plumber under NSW plumbing licence #275278C, and we carry $20 million in public liability cover that you are welcome to check on the day.

How do you clear a blocked drain?

A camera goes down first to pin down the blockage, then the right gear clears it, usually a high-pressure jetter or an electric eel. Before we pack up, you watch the pipe run clear on screen.

Do you use a camera to check the drain?

Yes, on nearly every job. A CCTV camera shows us exactly what is blocking the line and where it sits, which matters on the older blocks here where roots and earthenware joints hide well underground.

Do you offer a 24/7 emergency blocked drain service?

Yes. The phone is answered around the clock, every day of the year, and a licensed plumber is on the line to talk you through it. Blocked drains keep no business hours, and neither do we.

Can you clear tree roots out of a drain?

Tree roots off the big garden blocks along the bushland edge are the most common cause we see here. We cut them out, camera the line, and talk you through keeping them from returning.

Is there a drain plumber near St Ives open on weekends?

Yes. We work weekends and public holidays right across the surrounding Ku-ring-gai streets, and there is no weekend loading on the price you approve.
